filial piety

In Chinese culture, filial piety (Chinese: ; pinyin: xiào) or a respect for parents and elderly is one of the virtues to be held above all else. But like many other virtues, it is fast being sacrificed at the altar of self-fulfillment and self-actualization.

Below is a commercial which depicts this reality:

Ephesians 6: 1-3 states: “Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”

As Christians, our relationship with our parents is to be a reflection of our devotion to the Lord.

i love my mom but there are times when she frustrates me & drives me up the wall. there are times when i feel stifled by her wants. there are times i feel my only purpose in life is to satisfy her. there are times when the last thing i want to be is filial. at times like these i can only look to the Lord for strength, help, wisdom and patience to live His Word.

You helped me remember how blessed I am to have a mother living near by and how easy it is to become wrapped up in the business of life.
I’ll be calling her today to line up some time with her over a cup of coffee.
Your post was a blessing. Thanks
