To be completely honest, I have to guard against making sports an idol. But competition gives me an opportunity to rely on God when things don’t go my way.

I’m reminded of Manny Pacquiao’s reaction to the judges’ horribly wrong decision against him in his recent match with Timothy Bradley. He was so calm that journalists wondered if it was his faith that enabled him to remain composed.

Me too, Tim! Sports and so many other things can become gods in our lives . . . idols that gradually move us away from our worship and love of God. May God help us maintain a healthy perspective in our varied interests, with our primary adoration being reserved for Him! (Revelation 2:4-5).

Sports is one of the most used tools of the Devil, and he uses it with great precision. Sports that use to be a bonus for Christian get to gathers after church (Softball – Baseball games) has become a wedge between Christians and church, driving the Christian farther away from GOD. Pro games has urged youth sports to play or practice on Wednesday evening (Mid week prayer meeting nights) and or Sundays (Church days / CHRIST RESURRECTION DAY) putting a wedge between Christians / people and GOD. Isaiah 58: 13 – 14 If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honorable; and shalt honor HIM, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasures, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
