That is a tough question. I find myself in opposition to several issues that run counter to the mainstream. We have had some bitter and vitriolic debates.
Instead of focusing on our differences, it helps to focus on what we have in common: faith in Christ.
Philipp Melanchthon who was a contemporary of the great reformer Martin Luther, said it best:
“In the essentials: Unity. In the non-essentials: Liberty. In all things: Charity.”
Wayno
Good thoughts, Wayno. I’m reminded of what Paul wrote in Ephesians 4:15, “Speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ.”
It is interesting that Jesus never came as a political leader, and He repeatedly exhorted his followers to obey all laws and honor government leaders.
Jesus did not come to engage in politics: He came to be the light of the world, and He told us to be lights in the world living pure, holy lives. Then GOD would bring out what is in the dark and condemn what is wrong. Mark 5:21-32.
We are to tell the good news of salvation, and GOD would make the seeds grow.
We are like mustard seeds absorbing God’s words, GOD makes us grow and we become nourishment and shelter for others.
When WE try to convict the world through politics, we can end up causing division in the church and offending the world. Instead, we need to focus on rebuking, correcting, and exhorting one another to live holy lives and living together in unity. Jesus said that is how the world would come to know Him. John 17:21. Matt. 5:13-16.
